Investing in Maldives

Why Maldives?

The World Bank’s 2006 Investment Climate Assessment “Ease of doing business Index” ranked Maldives top in South Asia

The Maldives enjoys a stable and transparent legal system and policy making environment. A foreign investment law guarantees the security of foreign and domestic investments. Furthermore, the Maldives’ liberal trade environment, dynamic private sector and development-oriented legal structure all contribute to a climate conducive to trade and investment.

The Maldives is socially cohesive, with a homogenous population that shares one culture, religion and language. Furthermore, the Maldives enjoys political stability, as witnessed by the recent peaceful transfer of power to a new, democratically-elected President. A new constitution, enacted in 2008, that enshrines the separation of powers between the executive, legislature and judiciary, is testament to the country’s stature as a modern and forward-looking nation.

The vast untapped potential in natural marine resources and the young, energetic and dynamic workforce are strong inducements to invest in the Maldives. The number of foreign companies investing in the Maldives has been increasing yearly for over a decade and foreign companies now provide air transport, resort management, manufacturing, management and accounting services.

The Maldives aims to attract more foreign investment, with an emphasis on attracting investments that:

Air Taxi

Welcome to Maldivian Air Taxi, one of the largest seaplane operations in the world! And where else could we be more appropriately located than in the Maldives?

The Maldives is a nation of islands in the Indian Ocean consisting of over 1,190 islands stretched over an archipelago that measures more than 800 km from North to South, best known as one of the most romantic holiday destinations in the world.

We have been in operation since 1993, offering convenient transfers to holidaymakers and locals alike. Today we carry hundreds of thousands of tourists and locals who visit the various islands each year. We take pride in taking them to their dream destinations, flying over endless stretches of breathtaking atolls, islands and reefs.

Please take some time to check out the variety of services we offer, from excursions to photo flights and charters for your private pleasure.

Our fleet consists of more than 20 DHC-6 Twin Otters, a fleet that is wholly owned by the Company.

The DHC-6 Twin Otter is a Canadian 19-passenger STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) aircraft developed by de Havilland Canada and currently produced by Viking Air. De Havilland has a history of more than 80 years. Development of the Twin Otter began in 1964, with the first flight on May 20, 1965. Twin engines not only provided improved safety but also allowed for an increase in payload while retaining the renowned STOL qualities.

The Twin Otter proved to be an immediate success, and became immensely popular for short-haul commuter transportation. The Twin Otter is one of the most versatile aircraft ever produced and could come with floats, skis or tricycle landing gear depending on the needs of its users.

We believe that our success and the consolidation of our reputation as a safe and reliable seaplane operator in a country such as the Maldives is primarily due to the fact that the Twin Otter is the most ideal small aircraft to the aviation environment in which we operate.
Safety and Quality

Standards
Safety and quality are embedded in all aspects of our operations. We adhere to a Safety Management System in all our departments, viz. Safety, Quality, Aircraft Maintenance, Flight Operations and Ground Operations Department.

We have a dedicated team of independent Safety and Quality Department personnel with qualified managers and auditors who work with written-down procedures that comply with regulations of the Maldives Civil Aviation Department.

Our Captains hold Airline Transport Pilot Licenses and are also instrument-rated. We strictly adhere to both our approved operations specifications and de Havilland’s standard operating procedures.

We are fully compliant to Civil Aviation Department (CAD) rules and regulations in the Maldives and we hold the following approvals:

Maldivian Air Operator Certificate Holder (AOC) – ref – AOC. No. 005
Continuing Airworthiness Management Organization (CAMO) – ref – MV.MG.003
Maldives Civil Aviation Regulations – MCAR 145 – Ref-MV.145.025

Visit the CAD website, http://www.aviainfo.gov.mv to read more about the regulatory environment in which we operate.

Maintenance and operations
We have a diverse pool of highly skilled engineers and technicians from various parts of the world, each bringing their own share of valuable aviation expertise. We exceed de Havilland’s maintenance schedules to ensure that, the operation and maintenance of our aircraft is always compliant with all specifications and regulatory requirements.
